All You Need To Know About ICAEW's CFAB Qualification

A practical business qualification, the ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting, and Business (ICAEW CFAB) is open to anyone aiming to master the fundamentals of business and finance.

Recognised and respected internationally, the ICAEW CFAB equips you with the requisite competencies and knowledge to excel in your professional development, whether you are planning to upgrade your skills or beginning a new career journey.

What Is The ICAEW CFAB?

The ICAEW CFAB consists of six modules that cover practical areas of study and provide a solid foundation for a career path in entrepreneurship, business, or financial management.

The total duration of the programme is 12 months, with up to 5 exam exemptions. These exemptions are eligible if you are currently studying for, or have already obtained a relevant degree from a recognised University. Exemptions are also available for students who already hold relevant professional accountancy qualifications.

Credit for prior learning (CPL), also known as exemptions, are available for some of the Certificate and Professional level exam modules. If you are eligible for exam exemptions, it could mean that you have fewer modules to study for and exams to sit for to gain the ICAEW CFAB qualification. Who Is It For?

While prior knowledge in business and finance can give you a head start, the ICAEW CFAB itself has no prerequisites or academic entry criteria and is therefore open to everyone.

From students interested in gaining professional credentials, to mid-career switchers, budding entrepreneurs, or anyone with a keen interest in business, the ICAEW CFAB can add real value to your resume and help you stand out from the competition.

Benefits of the ICAEW CFAB

Highly-Sought After By Employers

An employee with a good understanding of finance, accountancy, and business is an asset to nearly every company. No matter the industry, having the ICAEW CFAB qualification on your CV shows that you take your professional development seriously and have been certified by a globally recognised organisation to have up-to-date and in-depth financial management knowledge.

Equips You With Skills For Entrepreneurship

Starting your own business requires certain personal qualities like grit, resilience, discipline, and problem-solving nous. Practically, having financial management skills like the ability to do a balance sheet, track expenses and profit, and manage your tax obligations, can be the difference between success and failure. The ICAEW CFAB instils in students all of these skills and more through our modules that focus on key aspects of business and finance.

Benefits of the ICAEW CFAB Flexibility

Flexibility

As an organisation dedicated to supporting learning and professional growth, we understand the crucial importance of flexibility for our students. Study options for the ICAEW CFAB allow you to learn at your own pace, and can be tweaked to fit around busy schedules.

We also provide various learning options from standard classroom lessons to online classes or self-study programmes. Pick the option that best suits your learning style, schedule, and budget.

What Are The Modules In ICAEW CFAB?

The six modules contained in the ICAEW CFAB are:

  • Accountancy
  • Assurance
  • Business, Technology, and Finance
  • Law
  • Management Information
  • Principles of Taxation

Each module focuses on one key aspect of finance, business, or accounting and is meant to furnish you with the practical insights and knowledge that can help your career prospects.

What Happens After You Obtain The CFAB Qualification?

The ICAEW CFAB is only a stepping stone to further development in the business and finance arena. Once you have obtained your CFAB qualifications, the journey doesn’t have to end there. You can further improve yourself by applying for the ICAEW Business and Finance Professional (BFP) designation.

The BFP is a prestigious designation that signifies to prospective employers that you have a high-level of relevant technical skills, specialised knowledge, and compliance with internationally recognised Code of Ethics.

The six modules covered under the ICAEW CFAB are the same modules as the first level of ICAEW’s leading chartered accountancy qualification, the ACA. The ICAEW CFAB is then just the first step towards a lucrative career as an ACA qualified chartered accountant. If you are thinking about how to become a chartered accountant, then you can consider getting your ICAEW CFAB certification first before proceeding to take on the ACA.

Whatever your career goals in the business and finance industry may be, obtaining the ICAEW CFAB is bound to give you an edge over other job-seekers. The rigorous programme ensures that students have the proficiency and capacity to succeed in their chosen path, while also providing an entryway to further, more specialised credentials in the financial industry.
